The Origins of Revolution
Why did the strongest monarchy in Europe run out of money, authority and consent?
France in Revolution 1774-1799 is Edexcel A Level History Paper 2, option 2C.1. It runs from the financial crisis of Louis XVI's monarchy through the Estates-General, the fall of the Bastille, the failure of constitutional monarchy, the Terror and Thermidor to the Directory and Napoleon Bonaparte's coup of Brumaire. Every section is written for A Level: precise, argued and alert to how historians disagree.
The Edexcel paper has two sections: Section A asks how the historian can use two sources together to investigate an enquiry, and Section B asks you to argue a judgement across the period ('How far do you agree...?'). Practice is built around one paragraph at a time, so you can rehearse the skill without writing a full essay each time.
A question you will meetHow far do you agree that the financial crisis was the main reason the monarchy fell in 1792?
